About
Welcome to Sunfire Queenstown, where culinary excellence meets the stunning backdrop of Queenstown, New Zealand. Nestled on the ground floor of Steamer Wharf at 88 Beach Street, this restaurant captures the essence of the region's vibrant dining scene. Sunfire promises an unforgettable experience, from its ambiance to its generously portioned dishes.
Client reviews echo a shared admiration for this gem. One diner, Jason Kee, raved about the delightful atmosphere and friendly service, highlighting that the entire experience was nothing short of amazing. It’s clear that Sunfire excels in creating an inviting vibe for everyone, whether you’re enjoying a casual weekday lunch like Hamish Yates—who appreciated the warmth and attentiveness while embracing the company of his dogs—or celebrating a special occasion with friends, as noted by Dani, whose birthday festivities were made memorable by the thoughtful touches of the staff.
The food at Sunfire is, unsurprisingly, the star of the show. Diners have lauded the remarkable flavors and generous serving sizes. The creamy prawn dish paired with puff rice brings a unique twist to traditional seafood, while the sirloin and truffle fries add a touch of indulgence to any meal. And don’t overlook the excellent wine selection to elevate your dining experience—all thoughtfully recommended by the efficient and friendly staff.
However, even a radiant gem can have its imperfections. As observed by Junyu Zhao, there’s a note of caution regarding service communication, particularly concerning kitchen hours. A gentle reminder to clarify last orders could elevate the dining experience from good to exceptional.
For those looking for a dining spot in Queenstown, Sunfire is a must-visit. Its strategic location, combined with great food and warm service, makes it a memorable dining destination. Whether you arrive for brunch, lunch, or a dinner festivity, Sunfire welcomes you with open arms, ready to ignite your palate with unforgettable culinary delights. Book a table or walk in, as this vibrant venue is waiting to journey with you through its flavorful offerings.
“ We ended up going to Sunfire for lunch because with a pram, we found it too hard to access Flame and Grill, but I am so glad that we did. Their seafood chowder was absolutely delicious, as well as their cheeseburger. The cheese balls were just OK. Customer service was great and the restaurant is pretty with a mid-century feel. Overall, it was a great dining experience. ”
“ We managed to get the best table in the house at the very last minute. The whole experience right from the start till we finished was amazing. Food was great, great vibe, service was friendly and excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant in Queenstown ”
“ We dined at SunFire yesterday. The food was decent and the environment was quite nice. However, the service could be improved. We had a table booked for 8:00 p.m., and after ordering our first round of dishes, we wanted to add more later. Unfortunately, the staff told us the kitchen had already closed. Normally, we would expect the server to let us know in advance — for example, by checking with us before the kitchen closed whether we wanted to order more. This small detail would have made the experience smoother. Overall, it was an okay experience, but I hope the service can be more attentive in the future. ”
“ I loved that it was an open kitchen, so we could watch the chefs cook — such a nice touch! Most of all, the food was incredibly fresh and delicious. The clam chowder wasn’t too salty and had a clean, rich flavor. The steak was absolutely amazing — just one bite brought out its savory, buttery tenderness. And the oysters were so fresh, flavorful, and perfectly briny. The service was also very friendly and attentive. Overall, a fantastic dining experience! ”
“ We visited Sunfire on last night in Queenstown during our ski trip. We didnt have reservation but managed to get the last table walking in. Our waiter recommended some items - We enjoyed the small plates Prawns. It was cooked in a creamy sauce with puff rice, which gives quite an interesting texture. Took some time for the sirloin to arrive on our table. The sirloin was decent and good, but wasn’t amazing. The side of truffle fries came very late, but was tasty. We ordered some white wine which are great, too. Overall the meal was excellent and we enjoyed the meal. Good value considering it is in prime touristy spot. Table seating was comfortable. Staff was polite and helpful. Would return to try other items if we were to visit Queenstown again! ”
“ Luke and Tana went above and beyond. AMAZING service and honestly the most welcoming and nicest servers we have ever had. They were naturally accommodating, charismatic and super attentive. Food and drinks were equally amazing. Delicious and such a treat. Prices as expected for this area. Great restaurant and great food. The sides and entrees are extremely generous so consider that when you order as our eyes were bigger than our stomachs - everything was so tasty though so just took to go! My friend’s birthday was extra special and really appreciated these touches! ”
“ What more to say, than “we loved it”. A weekday lunch with our two dogs tucked under the table could not have been better. Attentive service, well heated (this is early Sept), and the most amazing food. Brunch, lunch, dinner - just do it!! ”
“ It is a lovely lakeside restaurant, and I must say, the food was exceptional. The gnocchi was surprisingly delicious, bursting with flavor and perfectly cooked. The salmon stood out as well, incredibly juicy and tender. The lamb skewers were decent. the seafood was delightful, and the oysters, while ordered by the dozen, were a bit on the mild side. Overall, the food quality was impressive, but what truly stood out was the outstanding service. The staff were attentive and friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere that perfectly complemented the chill vibe of the lakeside setting. I highly recommend this spot for a delightful dining experience! ”
